A simplified, flavorful recipe for roasting a turkey, perfect for Thanksgiving gatherings.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 1 lemon, quartered
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary, thyme, and sage)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. Prepare the butter mixture by combining softened butter and olive oil, seasoning with salt and pepper.
  3. Rub the butter mixture all over the turkey, including under the skin.
  4. Stuff the cavity with quartered onion, lemon, and fresh herbs.
  5. Prepare the roasting setup by placing turkey breast side up on a roasting rack in a large roasting pan.
  6. Add chicken broth to the bottom of the pan.
  7. Roast the turkey, basting every 30 minutes, for about 3 to 4 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
  8. Let the turkey rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.
