A creamy, cheesy delight that’s quick to make and perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces elbow macaroni
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Optional: Breadcrumbs for topping
  • Optional: Paprika for added flavor

Instructions

  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the elbow macaroni and cook according to package instructions until al dente, about 8 to 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Once melted, sprinkle in the flour and whisk constantly for about 1-2 minutes until a roux forms and turns slightly golden.
  3. Gradually pour in the milk while whisking continuously to avoid lumps. Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and comes to a gentle simmer, about 3-5 minutes.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until fully melted and smooth. Season the cheese sauce with salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir until all the pasta is evenly coated with the creamy cheese mixture.
  6. If you prefer a baked mac and cheese, transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, sprinkle with breadcrumbs and additional cheese, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.

Notes

For a healthier twist, add steamed vegetables or mix in different types of cheese for varied flavor.
